25::19アブラハムの子イサクの系図は次のとおりである。アブラハムの子はイサクであって、25:19 This is the history of the generations of Isaac, Abraham’s son. Abraham became the father of Isaac.
25::20イサクは四十歳の時、パダンアラムのアラムびとベトエルの娘で、アラムびとラバンの妹リベカを妻にめとった。25:20 Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Paddan Aram, the sister of Laban the Syrian, to be his wife.
25::21イサクは妻が子を産まなかったので、妻のために主に祈り願った。主はその願いを聞かれ、妻リベカはみごもった。25:21 Isaac entreated Yahweh for his wife, because she was barren. Yahweh was entreated by him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.
25::22ところがその子らが胎内で押し合ったので、リベカは言った、「こんなことでは、わたしはどうなるでしょう」。彼女は行って主に尋ねた。25:22 The children struggled together within her. She said, “If it be so, why do I live?” She went to inquire of Yahweh.
25::23主は彼女に言われた、「二つの国民があなたの胎内にあり、二つの民があなたの腹から別れて出る。一つの民は他の民よりも強く、兄は弟に仕えるであろう」。25:23 Yahweh said to her, “Two nations are in your womb. Two peoples will be separated from your body. The one people will be stronger than the other people. The elder will serve the younger.”
25::24彼女の出産の日がきたとき、胎内にはふたごがあった。25:24 When her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb.
25::25さきに出たのは赤くて全身毛ごろものようであった。それで名をエサウと名づけた。25:25 The first came out red all over, like a hairy garment. They named him Esau.
25::26その後に弟が出た。その手はエサウのかかとをつかんでいた。それで名をヤコブと名づけた。リベカが彼らを産んだ時、イサクは六十歳であった。25:26 After that, his brother came out, and his hand had hold on Esau’s heel. He was named Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when she bore them.
25::27さてその子らは成長し、エサウは巧みな狩猟者となり、野の人となったが、ヤコブは穏やかな人で、天幕に住んでいた。25:27 The boys grew. Esau was a skillful hunter, a man of the field. Jacob was a quiet man, living in tents.
25::28イサクは、しかの肉が好きだったので、エサウを愛したが、リベカはヤコブを愛した。25:28 Now Isaac loved Esau, because he ate his venison. Rebekah loved Jacob.
25::29ある日ヤコブが、あつものを煮ていた時、エサウは飢え疲れて野から帰ってきた。25:29 Jacob boiled stew. Esau came in from the field, and he was famished.
25::30エサウはヤコブに言った、「わたしは飢え疲れた。お願いだ。赤いもの、その赤いものをわたしに食べさせてくれ」。彼が名をエドムと呼ばれたのはこのためである。25:30 Esau said to Jacob, “Please feed me with that same red stew, for I am famished.” Therefore his name was called Edom.
25::31ヤコブは言った、「まずあなたの長子の特権をわたしに売りなさい」。25:31 Jacob said, “First, sell me your birthright.”
25::32エサウは言った、「わたしは死にそうだ。長子の特権などわたしに何になろう」。25:32 Esau said, “Behold, I am about to die. What good is the birthright to me?”
25::33ヤコブはまた言った、「まずわたしに誓いなさい」。彼は誓って長子の特権をヤコブに売った。25:33 Jacob said, “Swear to me first.” He swore to him. He sold his birthright to Jacob.
25::34そこでヤコブはパンとレンズ豆のあつものとをエサウに与えたので、彼は飲み食いして、立ち去った。このようにしてエサウは長子の特権を軽んじた。25:34 Jacob gave Esau bread and stew of lentils. He ate and drank, rose up, and went his way. So Esau despised his birthright.
26::1アブラハムの時にあった初めのききんのほか、またききんがその国にあったので、イサクはゲラルにいるペリシテびとの王アビメレクの所へ行った。26:1 There was a famine in the land, besides the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Philistines, to Gerar.
26::2その時、主は彼に現れて言われた、「エジプトへ下ってはならない。わたしがあなたに示す地にとどまりなさい。26:2 Yahweh appeared to him, and said, “Don’t go down into Egypt. Live in the land I will tell you about.
26::3あなたがこの地にとどまるなら、わたしはあなたと共にいて、あなたを祝福し、これらの国をことごとくあなたと、あなたの子孫とに与え、わたしがあなたの父アブラハムに誓った誓いを果そう。26:3 Live in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you. For to you, and to your seed, I will give all these lands, and I will establish the oath which I swore to Abraham your father.
26::4またわたしはあなたの子孫を増して天の星のようにし、あなたの子孫にこれらの地をみな与えよう。そして地のすべての国民はあなたの子孫によって祝福をえるであろう。26:4 I will multiply your seed as the stars of the sky, and will give to your seed all these lands. In your seed will all the nations of the earth be blessed,
26::5アブラハムがわたしの言葉にしたがってわたしのさとしと、いましめと、さだめと、おきてとを守ったからである」。26:5 because Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my requirements, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.”
26::6こうしてイサクはゲラルに住んだ。26:6 Isaac lived in Gerar.
26::7その所の人々が彼の妻のことを尋ねたとき、「彼女はわたしの妹です」と彼は言った。リベカは美しかったので、その所の人々がリベカのゆえに自分を殺すかもしれないと思って、「わたしの妻です」と言うのを恐れたからである。26:7 The men of the place asked him about his wife. He said, “She is my sister,” for he was afraid to say, “My wife,” lest, he thought, “the men of the place might kill me for Rebekah, because she is beautiful to look at.”
26::8イサクは長らくそこにいたが、ある日ペリシテびとの王アビメレクは窓から外をながめていて、イサクがその妻リベカと戯れているのを見た。26:8 It happened, when he had been there a long time, that Abimelech king of the Philistines looked out at a window, and saw, and, behold, Isaac was caressing Rebekah, his wife.
26::9そこでアビメレクはイサクを召して言った、「彼女は確かにあなたの妻です。あなたはどうして『彼女はわたしの妹です』と言われたのですか」。イサクは彼に言った、「わたしは彼女のゆえに殺されるかもしれないと思ったからです」。26:9 Abimelech called Isaac, and said, “Behold, surely she is your wife. Why did you say, ‘She is my sister?'” Isaac said to him, “Because I said, ‘Lest I die because of her.'”
26::10アビメレクは言った、「あなたはどうしてこんな事をわれわれにされたのですか。民のひとりが軽々しくあなたの妻と寝るような事があれば、その時あなたはわれわれに罪を負わせるでしょう」。26:10 Abimelech said, “What is this you have done to us? One of the people might easily have lain with your wife, and you would have brought guilt on us!”
26::11それでアビメレクはすべての民に命じて言った、「この人、またはその妻にさわる者は必ず死ななければならない」。26:11 Abimelech commanded all the people, saying, “He who touches this man or his wife will surely be put to death.”
26::12イサクはその地に種をまいて、その年に百倍の収穫を得た。このように主が彼を祝福されたので、26:12 Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year one hundred times what he planted. Yahweh blessed him.
26::13彼は富み、またますます栄えて非常に裕福になり、26:13 The man grew great, and grew more and more until he became very great.
26::14羊の群れ、牛の群れ及び多くのしもべを持つようになったので、ペリシテびとは彼をねたんだ。26:14 He had possessions of flocks, possessions of herds, and a great household. The Philistines envied him.
26::15またペリシテびとは彼の父アブラハムの時に、父のしもべたちが掘ったすべての井戸をふさぎ、土で埋めた。26:15 Now all the wells which his father’s servants had dug in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped, and filled with earth.
26::16アビメレクはイサクに言った、「あなたはわれわれよりも、はるかに強くなられたから、われわれの所を去ってください」。26:16 Abimelech said to Isaac, “Go from us, for you are much mightier than we.”
26::17イサクはそこを去り、ゲラルの谷に天幕を張ってその所に住んだ。26:17 Isaac departed from there, encamped in the valley of Gerar, and lived there.
26::18そしてイサクは父アブラハムの時に人々の掘った水の井戸を再び掘った。アブラハムの死後、ペリシテびとがふさいだからである。イサクは父がつけた名にしたがってそれらに名をつけた。26:18 Isaac dug again the wells of water, which they had dug in the days of Abraham his father. For the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham. He called their names after the names by which his father had called them.
26::19しかしイサクのしもべたちが谷の中を掘って、そこにわき出る水の井戸を見つけたとき、26:19 Isaac’s servants dug in the valley, and found there a well of springing water.
26::20ゲラルの羊飼たちは、「この水はわれわれのものだ」と言って、イサクの羊飼たちと争ったので、イサクはその井戸の名をエセクと名づけた。彼らが彼と争ったからである。26:20 The herdsmen of Gerar argued with Isaac’s herdsmen, saying, “The water is ours.” He called the name of the well Esek, because they contended with him.
26::21彼らはまた一つの井戸を掘ったが、これをも争ったので、名をシテナと名づけた。26:21 They dug another well, and they argued over that, also. He called its name Sitnah.
26::22イサクはそこから移ってまた一つの井戸を掘ったが、彼らはこれを争わなかったので、その名をレホボテと名づけて言った、「いま主がわれわれの場所を広げられたから、われわれはこの地にふえるであろう」。26:22 He left that place, and dug another well. They didn’t argue over that one. He called it Rehoboth. He said, “For now Yahweh has made room for us, and we will be fruitful in the land.”
26::23彼はそこからベエルシバに上った。26:23 He went up from there to Beersheba.
26::24その夜、主は彼に現れて言われた、「わたしはあなたの父アブラハムの神である。あなたは恐れてはならない。わたしはあなたと共におって、あなたを祝福し、わたしのしもべアブラハムのゆえにあなたの子孫を増すであろう」。26:24 Yahweh appeared to him the same night, and said, “I am the God of Abraham your father. Don’t be afraid, for I am with you, and will bless you, and multiply your seed for my servant Abraham’s sake.”
26::25それで彼はその所に祭壇を築いて、主の名を呼び、そこに天幕を張った。またイサクのしもべたちはそこに一つの井戸を掘った。26:25 He built an altar there, and called on the name of Yahweh, and pitched his tent there. There Isaac’s servants dug a well.
26::26時にアビメレクがその友アホザテと、軍勢の長ピコルと共にゲラルからイサクのもとにきたので、26:26 Then Abimelech went to him from Gerar, and Ahuzzath his friend, and Phicol the captain of his army.
26::27イサクは彼らに言った、「あなたがたはわたしを憎んで、あなたがたの中からわたしを追い出されたのに、どうしてわたしの所にこられたのですか」。26:27 Isaac said to them, “Why have you come to me, since you hate me, and have sent me away from you?”
26::28彼らは言った、「われわれは主があなたと共におられるのを、はっきり見ましたので、いまわれわれの間、すなわちわれわれとあなたとの間に一つの誓いを立てて、あなたと契約を結ぼうと思います。26:28 They said, “We saw plainly that Yahweh was with you. We said, ‘Let there now be an oath between us, even between us and you, and let us make a covenant with you,
26::29われわれはあなたに害を加えたことはなく、ただ良い事だけをして、安らかに去らせたのですから、あなたはわれわれに悪い事をしてはなりません。まことにあなたは主に祝福されたかたです」。26:29 that you will do us no harm, as we have not touched you, and as we have done to you nothing but good, and have sent you away in peace.’ You are now the blessed of Yahweh.”
26::30そこでイサクは彼らのためにふるまいを設けた。彼らは飲み食いし、26:30 He made them a feast, and they ate and drank.
26::31あくる朝、はやく起きて互に誓った。こうしてイサクは彼らを去らせたので、彼らはイサクのもとから穏やかに去った。26:31 They rose up some time in the morning, and swore one to another. Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace.
26::32その日、イサクのしもべたちがきて、自分たちが掘った井戸について彼に告げて言った、「わたしたちは水を見つけました」。26:32 It happened the same day, that Isaac’s servants came, and told him concerning the well which they had dug, and said to him, “We have found water.”
26::33イサクはそれをシバと名づけた。これによってその町の名は今日にいたるまでベエルシバといわれている。26:33 He called it Shibah. {Shibah means “oath” or “seven.”} Therefore the name of the city is Beersheba {Beersheba means “well of the oath” or “well of the seven”} to this day.
26::34エサウは四十歳の時、ヘテびとベエリの娘ユデテとヘテびとエロンの娘バスマテとを妻にめとった。26:34 When Esau was forty years old, he took as wife Judith, the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Basemath, the daughter of Elon the Hittite.
26::35彼女たちはイサクとリベカにとって心の痛みとなった。26:35 They grieved Isaac’s and Rebekah’s spirits.
