28:65その国々の民のうちであなたは安きを得ず、また足の裏を休める所も得られないであろう。主はその所で、あなたの心をおののかせ、目を衰えさせ、精神を打ちしおれさせられるであろう。28:65 Among these nations you shall find no ease, and there shall be no rest for the sole of your foot: but Yahweh will give you there a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and pining of soul;
28:66あなたの命は細い糸にかかっているようになり、夜昼恐れおののいて、その命もおぼつかなく思うであろう。28:66 and your life shall hang in doubt before you; and you shall fear night and day, and shall have no assurance of your life.
28:67あなたが心にいだく恐れと、目に見るものによって、朝には『ああ夕であればよいのに』と言い、夕には『ああ朝であればよいのに』と言うであろう。28:67 In the morning you shall say, “I wish it were evening!” and at evening you shall say, “I wish it were morning!” for the fear of your heart which you shall fear, and for the sight of your eyes which you shall see.
28:68主はあなたを舟に乗せ、かつてわたしがあなたに告げて、『あなたは再びこれを見ることはない』と言った道によって、あなたをエジプトへ連れもどされるであろう。あなたがたはそこで男女の奴隷として敵に売られるが、だれも買う者はないであろう」。28:68 Yahweh will bring you into Egypt again with ships, by the way of which I said to you, You shall see it no more again: and there you shall sell yourselves to your enemies for bondservants and for bondmaids, and no man shall buy you.
29:1これは主がモーセに命じて、モアブの地でイスラエルの人々と結ばせられた契約の言葉であって、ホレブで彼らと結ばれた契約のほかのものである。29:1 These are the words of the covenant which Yahweh commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, besides the covenant which he made with them in Horeb.
29:2モーセはイスラエルのすべての人を呼び集めて言った、「あなたがたは主がエジプトの地で、パロと、そのすべての家来と、その全地とにせられたすべての事をまのあたり見た。29:2 Moses called to all Israel, and said to them, You have seen all that Yahweh did before your eyes in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh, and to all his servants, and to all his land;
29:3すなわちその大きな試みと、しるしと、大きな不思議とをまのあたり見たのである。29:3 the great trials which your eyes saw, the signs, and those great wonders:
29:4しかし、今日まで主はあなたがたの心に悟らせず、目に見させず、耳に聞かせられなかった。29:4 but Yahweh has not given you a heart to know, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, to this day.
29:5わたしは四十年の間、あなたがたを導いて荒野を通らせたが、あなたがたの身につけた着物は古びず、足のくつは古びなかった。29:5 I have led you forty years in the wilderness: your clothes have not grown old on you, and your shoes have not grown old on your feet.
29:6あなたがたはまたパンも食べず、ぶどう酒も濃い酒も飲まなかった。こうしてあなたがたは、わたしがあなたがたの神、主であることを知るに至った。29:6 You have not eaten bread, neither have you drunk wine or strong drink; that you may know that I am Yahweh your God.
29:7あなたがたがこの所にきたとき、ヘシボンの王シホンと、バシャンの王オグがわれわれを迎えて戦ったが、われわれは彼らを撃ち敗って、29:7 When you came to this place, Sihon the king of Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, came out against us to battle, and we struck them:
29:8その地を取り、これをルベンびとと、ガドびとと、マナセびとの半ばとに、嗣業として与えた。29:8 and we took their land, and gave it for an inheritance to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half-tribe of the Manassites.
29:9それゆえ、あなたがたはこの契約の言葉を守って、それを行わなければならない。そうすればあなたがたのするすべての事は栄えるであろう。29:9 Keep therefore the words of this covenant, and do them, that you may prosper in all that you do.
29:10あなたがたは皆、きょう、あなたがたの神、主の前に立っている。すなわちあなたがたの部族のかしらたち、長老たち、つかさたちなど、イスラエルのすべての人々、29:10 You stand this day all of you before Yahweh your God; your heads, your tribes, your elders, and your officers, even all the men of Israel,
29:11あなたがたの小さい者たちも、妻たちも、宿営のうちに寄留している他国人も、あなたのために、たきぎを割る者も、水をくむ者も、みな主の前に立って、29:11 your little ones, your wives, and your foreigner who is in the midst of your camps, from the one who cuts your wood to the one who draws your water;
29:12あなたの神、主が、きょう、あなたと結ばれるあなたの神、主の契約と誓いとに、はいろうとしている。29:12 that you may enter into the covenant of Yahweh your God, and into his oath, which Yahweh your God makes with you this day;
29:13これは主がさきにあなたに約束されたように、またあなたの先祖アブラハム、イサク、ヤコブに誓われたように、きょう、あなたを立てて自分の民とし、またみずからあなたの神となられるためである。29:13 that he may establish you this day to himself for a people, and that he may be to you a God, as he spoke to you, and as he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
29:14わたしはただあなたがたとだけ、この契約と誓いとを結ぶのではない。29:14 Neither with you only do I make this covenant and this oath,
29:15きょう、ここで、われわれの神、主の前にわれわれと共に立っている者ならびに、きょう、ここにわれわれと共にいない者とも結ぶのである。29:15 but with him who stands here with us this day before Yahweh our God, and also with him who is not here with us this day
29:16われわれがどのようにエジプトの国に住んでいたか、どのように国々の民の中を通ってきたか、それはあなたがたが知っている。29:16 (for you know how we lived in the land of Egypt, and how we came through the midst of the nations through which you passed;

29:18それゆえ、あなたがたのうちに、きょう、その心にわれわれの神、主を離れてそれらの国民の神々に行って仕える男や女、氏族や部族があってはならない。またあなたがたのうちに、毒草や、にがよもぎを生ずる根があってはならない。29:18 lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turns away this day from Yahweh our God, to go to serve the gods of those nations; lest there should be among you a root that bears gall and wormwood;
29:19そのような人はこの誓いの言葉を聞いても、心に自分を祝福して『心をかたくなにして歩んでもわたしには平安がある』と言うであろう。そうすれば潤った者も、かわいた者もひとしく滅びるであろう。29:19 and it happen, when he hears the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, “I shall have peace, though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart, to destroy the moist with the dry.”
29:20主はそのような人をゆるすことを好まれない。かえって主はその人に怒りとねたみを発し、この書物にしるされたすべてののろいを彼の上に加え、主はついにその人の名を天の下から消し去られるであろう。29:20 Yahweh will not pardon him, but then the anger of Yahweh and his jealousy will smoke against that man, and all the curse that is written in this book shall lie on him, and Yahweh will blot out his name from under the sky.
29:21主はイスラエルのすべての部族のうちからその人を区別して災をくだし、この律法の書にしるされた契約の中のもろもろののろいのようにされるであろう。29:21 Yahweh will set him apart to evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant that is written in this book of the law.
29:22後の代の人、すなわちあなたがたののちに起るあなたがたの子孫および遠い国から来る外国人は、この地の災を見、主がこの地にくだされた病気を見て言うであろう。29:22 The generation to come, your children who shall rise up after you, and the foreigner who shall come from a far land, shall say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses with which Yahweh has made it sick;
29:23 全地は硫黄となり、塩となり、焼け土となって、種もまかれず、実も結ばず、なんの草も生じなくなって、むかし主が怒りと憤りをもって滅ぼされたソドム、ゴモラ、アデマ、ゼボイムの破滅のようである。29:23 and that the whole land of it is sulfur, salt, and burning, that it is not sown, nor bears, nor any grass grows therein, like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which Yahweh overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath:
29:24すなわち、もろもろの国民は言うであろう、『なぜ、主はこの地にこのようなことをされたのか。この激しい大いなる怒りは何ゆえか』。29:24 even all the nations shall say, “Why has Yahweh done thus to this land? What does the heat of this great anger mean?”
29:25そのとき人々は言うであろう、『彼らはその先祖の神、主がエジプトの国から彼らを導き出して彼らと結ばれた契約をすて、29:25 Then men shall say, “Because they forsook the covenant of Yahweh, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt,
29:26行って彼らの知らない、また授からない、ほかの神々に仕えて、それを拝んだからである。29:26 and went and served other gods, and worshiped them, gods that they didn’t know, and that he had not given to them:
29:27それゆえ主はこの地にむかって怒りを発し、この書物にしるされたもろもろののろいをこれにくだし、29:27 therefore the anger of Yahweh was kindled against this land, to bring on it all the curse that is written in this book;
29:28そして主は怒りと、はげしい怒りと大いなる憤りとをもって彼らをこの地から抜き取って、ほかの国に投げやられた。今日見るとおりである』。29:28 and Yahweh rooted them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as at this day.”
29:29隠れた事はわれわれの神、主に属するものである。しかし表わされたことは長くわれわれとわれわれの子孫に属し、われわれにこの律法のすべての言葉を行わせるのである。29:29 The secret things belong to Yahweh our God; but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.
30:1わたしがあなたがたの前に述べたこのもろもろの祝福と、のろいの事があなたに臨み、あなたがあなたの神、主に追いやられたもろもろの国民のなかでこの事を心に考えて、30:1 It shall happen, when all these things have come on you, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before you, and you shall call them to mind among all the nations, where Yahweh your God has driven you,
30:2あなたもあなたの子供も共にあなたの神、主に立ち帰り、わたしが、きょう、命じるすべてのことにおいて、心をつくし、精神をつくして、主の声に聞き従うならば、30:2 and shall return to Yahweh your God, and shall obey his voice according to all that I command you this day, you and your children, with all your heart, and with all your soul;
30:3あなたの神、主はあなたを再び栄えさせ、あなたをあわれみ、あなたの神、主はあなたを散らされた国々から再び集められるであろう。30:3 that then Yahweh your God will turn your captivity, and have compassion on you, and will return and gather you from all the peoples, where Yahweh your God has scattered you.
30:4たといあなたが天のはてに追いやられても、あなたの神、主はそこからあなたを集め、そこからあなたを連れ帰られるであろう。30:4 If your outcasts are in the uttermost parts of the heavens, from there will Yahweh your God gather you, and from there he will bring you back:
30:5あなたの神、主はあなたの先祖が所有した地にあなたを帰らせ、あなたはそれを所有するに至るであろう。主はまたあなたを栄えさせ、数を増して先祖たちよりも多くされるであろう。30:5 and Yahweh your God will bring you into the land which your fathers possessed, and you shall possess it; and he will do you good, and multiply you above your fathers.
30:6そしてあなたの神、主はあなたの心とあなたの子孫の心に割礼を施し、あなたをして、心をつくし、精神をつくしてあなたの神、主を愛させ、こうしてあなたに命を得させられるであろう。30:6 Yahweh your God will circumcise your heart, and the heart of your seed, to love Yahweh your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, that you may live.
30:7あなたの神、主はまた、あなたを迫害する敵と、あなたを憎む者とに、このもろもろののろいをこうむらせられるであろう。30:7 Yahweh your God will put all these curses on your enemies, and on those who hate you, who persecuted you.
30:8しかし、あなたは再び主の声に聞き従い、わたしが、きょう、あなたに命じるすべての戒めを守るであろう。30:8 You shall return and obey the voice of Yahweh, and do all his commandments which I command you this day.
30:9そうすればあなたの神、主はあなたのするすべてのことと、あなたの身から生れる者と、家畜の産むものと、地に産する物を豊かに与えて、あなたを栄えさせられるであろう。すなわち主はあなたの先祖たちを喜ばれたように再びあなたを喜んで、あなたを栄えさせられるであろう。30:9 Yahweh your God will make you plenteous in all the work of your hand, in the fruit of your body, and in the fruit of your livestock, and in the fruit of your ground, for good: for Yahweh will again rejoice over you for good, as he rejoiced over your fathers;
30:10これはあなたが、あなたの神、主の声に聞きしたがい、この律法の書にしるされた戒めと定めとを守り、心をつくし、精神をつくしてあなたの神、主に帰するからである。30:10 if you shall obey the voice of Yahweh your God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law; if you turn to Yahweh your God with all your heart, and with all your soul.
30:11わたしが、きょう、あなたに命じるこの戒めは、むずかしいものではなく、また遠いものでもない。30:11 For this commandment which I command you this day, it is not too hard for you, neither is it far off.
30:12これは天にあるのではないから、『だれがわれわれのために天に上り、それをわれわれのところへ持ってきて、われわれに聞かせ、行わせるであろうか』と言うに及ばない。30:12 It is not in heaven, that you should say, “Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it to us, and make us to hear it, that we may do it?”
30:13またこれは海のかなたにあるのではないから、『だれがわれわれのために海を渡って行き、それをわれわれのところへ携えてきて、われわれに聞かせ、行わせるであろうか』と言うに及ばない。30:13 Neither is it beyond the sea, that you should say, “Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it to us, and make us to hear it, that we may do it?”
30:14この言葉はあなたに、はなはだ近くあってあなたの口にあり、またあなたの心にあるから、あなたはこれを行うことができる。30:14 But the word is very near to you, in your mouth, and in your heart, that you may do it.
30:15見よ、わたしは、きょう、命とさいわい、および死と災をあなたの前に置いた。30:15 Behold, I have set before you this day life and good, and death and evil;
30:16すなわちわたしは、きょう、あなたにあなたの神、主を愛し、その道に歩み、その戒めと定めと、おきてとを守ることを命じる。それに従うならば、あなたは生きながらえ、その数は多くなるであろう。またあなたの神、主はあなたが行って取る地であなたを祝福されるであろう。30:16 in that I command you this day to love Yahweh your God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his ordinances, that you may live and multiply, and that Yahweh your God may bless you in the land where you go in to possess it.
30:17しかし、もしあなたが心をそむけて聞き従わず、誘われて他の神々を拝み、それに仕えるならば、30:17 But if your heart turns away, and you will not hear, but shall be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them;
30:18わたしは、きょう、あなたがたに告げる。あなたがたは必ず滅びるであろう。あなたがたはヨルダンを渡り、はいって行って取る地でながく命を保つことができないであろう。30:18 I denounce to you this day, that you shall surely perish; you shall not prolong your days in the land, where you pass over the Jordan to go in to possess it.
30:19わたしは、きょう、天と地を呼んであなたがたに対する証人とする。わたしは命と死および祝福とのろいをあなたの前に置いた。あなたは命を選ばなければならない。そうすればあなたとあなたの子孫は生きながらえることができるであろう。30:19 I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse: therefore choose life, that you may live, you and your seed;
30:20すなわちあなたの神、主を愛して、その声を聞き、主につき従わなければならない。そうすればあなたは命を得、かつ長く命を保つことができ、主が先祖アブラハム、イサク、ヤコブに与えると誓われた地に住むことができるであろう」。30:20 to love Yahweh your God, to obey his voice, and to cling to him; for he is your life, and the length of your days; that you may dwell in the land which Yahweh swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.
