Whoever is with you in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand is on him. | |

| 4:18主の契約の箱をかく祭司たちはヨルダンの中から上がってきたが、祭司たちの足の裏がかわいた地にあがると同時に、ヨルダンの水はもとの所に流れかえって、以前のように、その岸にことごとくあふれた。 | 4:18 It happened, when the priests who bore the ark of the covenant of Yahweh had come up out of the middle of the Jordan, and the soles of the priests' feet were lifted up to the dry ground, that the waters of the Jordan returned to their place, and went over all its banks, as before. | |
| 4:19民は正月の十日に、ヨルダンから上がってきて、エリコの東の境にあるギルガルに宿営した。 | 4:19 The people came up out of the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, on the east border of Jericho. | |

| 4:24このようにされたのは、地のすべての民に、主の手に力のあることを知らせ、あなたがたの神、主をつねに恐れさせるためである」。 | 4:24 that all the peoples of the earth may know the hand of Yahweh, that it is mighty; that you may fear Yahweh your God forever.'" | |
| 5:1ヨルダンの向こう側、すなわち西の方におるアモリびとの王たちと、海べにおるカナンびとの王たちとは皆、主がイスラエルの人々の前で、ヨルダンの水を干しからして、彼らを渡らせられたと聞いて、イスラエルの人々のゆえに、心は消え、彼らのうちに、もはや元気もなくなった。 | 5:1 It happened, when all the kings of the Amorites, who were beyond the Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, who were by the sea, heard how that Yahweh had dried up the waters of the Jordan from before the children of Israel, until we had passed over, that their heart melted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the children of Israel. | |

| 5:4ヨシュアが人々に割礼を行った理由はこうである。エジプトから出てきた民のうちの、すべての男子、すなわち、いくさびとたちは皆、エジプトを出た後、途中、荒野で死んだが、 | 5:4 This is the reason Joshua circumcised: all the people who came out of Egypt, who were males, even all the men of war, died in the wilderness by the way, after they came out of Egypt. | |
| 5:5その出てきた民は皆、割礼を受けた者であった。しかし、エジプトを出た後に、途中、荒野で生まれた民は、みな割礼を受けていなかった。 | 5:5 For all the people who came out were circumcised; but all the people who were born in the wilderness by the way as they came out of Egypt had not been circumcised. | |
| 5:6イスラエルの人々は四十年の間、荒野を歩いていて、そのエジプトから出てきた民、すなわち、いくさびとたちは、みな死に絶えた。これは彼らが主の声に聞き従わなかったので、主は彼らの先祖たちに誓って、われわれに与えると仰せられた地、乳と蜜の流れる地を、彼らに見させないと誓われたからである。 | 5:6 For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, until all the nation, even the men of war who came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they didn't listen to the voice of Yahweh. Yahweh swore to them that he wouldn't let them see the land which Yahweh swore to their fathers that he would give us, a land flowing with milk and honey. | |
| 5:7ヨシュアが割礼を行ったのは、この人々についで起されたその子どもたちであった。彼らは途中で割礼を受けていなかったので、無割礼の者であったからである。 | 5:7 Their children, whom he raised up in their place, were circumcised by Joshua; for they were uncircumcised, because they had not circumcised them on the way. | |
| 5:8すべての民に割礼を行うことが終ったので、民は宿営のうちの自分の所にとどまって傷の直るのを待った。 | 5:8 It happened, when they were done circumcising all the nation, that they stayed in their places in the camp until they were healed. | |
| 5:9その時、主はヨシュアに言われた、「きょう、わたしはエジプトのはずかしめを、あなたがたからころがし去った」。それでその所の名は、今日までギルガルと呼ばれている。 | 5:9 Yahweh said to Joshua, "Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you." Therefore the name of that place was called Gilgal, {"Gilgal" sounds like the Hebrew for "roll." } to this day. | |

| 5:12その地の穀物を食べた翌日から、マナの降ることはやみ、イスラエルの人々は、もはやマナを獲なかった。その年はカナンの地の産物を食べた。 | 5:12 The manna ceased on the next day, after they had eaten of the produce of the land. The children of Israel didn't have manna any more; but they ate of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year. | |

| 5:15すると主の軍勢の将はヨシュアに言った、「あなたの足のくつを脱ぎなさい。あなたが立っている所は聖なる所である」。ヨシュアはそのようにした。 | 5:15 The prince of Yahweh's army said to Joshua, "Take your shoes off of your feet; for the place on which you stand is holy." Joshua did so. | |
| 6:1さてエリコは、イスラエルの人々のゆえに、かたく閉ざして、出入りするものがなかった。 | 6:1 Now Jericho was tightly shut up because of the children of Israel. No one went out, and no one came in. | |
| 6:2主はヨシュアに言われた、「見よ、わたしはエリコと、その王および大勇士を、あなたの手にわたしている。 | 6:2 Yahweh said to Joshua, "Behold, I have given Jericho into your hand, with its king and the mighty men of valor. | |
| 6:3あなたがた、いくさびとはみな、町を巡って、町の周囲を一度回らなければならない。六日の間そのようにしなければならない。 | 6:3 All your men of war shall march around the city, going around the city once. You shall do this six days. | |
| 6:4七人の祭司たちは、おのおの雄羊の角のラッパを携えて、箱に先立たなければならない。そして七日目には七度町を巡り、祭司たちはラッパを吹き鳴らさなければならない。 | 6:4 Seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark. On the seventh day, you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets. | |
| 6:5そして祭司たちが雄羊の角を長く吹き鳴らし、そのラッパの音が、あなたがたに聞える時、民はみな大声に呼ばわり、叫ばなければならない。そうすれば、町の周囲の石がきは、くずれ落ち、民はみなただちに進んで、攻め上ることができる」。 | 6:5 It shall be that when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall go up every man straight before him." | |

| 6:8ヨシュアが民に命じたように、七人の祭司たちは、雄羊の角のラッパ七本を携えて、主に先立って進み、ラッパを吹き鳴らした。主の契約の箱はそのあとに従った。 | 6:8 It was so, that when Joshua had spoken to the people, the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams' horns before Yahweh advanced, and blew the trumpets; and the ark of the covenant of Yahweh followed them. | |
| 6:9武装した者はラッパを吹き鳴らす祭司たちに先立って行き、しんがりは箱に従った。ラッパは絶え間なく鳴り響いた。 | 6:9 The armed men went before the priests who blew the trumpets, and the ark went after them. The trumpets sounded as they went. | |
| 6:10しかし、ヨシュアは民に命じて言った、「あなたがたは呼ばわってはならない。あなたがたの声を聞えさせてはならない。また口から言葉を出してはならない。ただ、わたしが呼ばわれと命じる日に、あなたがたは呼ばわらなければならない」。 | 6:10 Joshua commanded the people, saying, "You shall not shout, nor let your voice be heard, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I tell you to shout. Then you shall shout." | |
| 6:11こうして主の箱を持って、町を巡らせ、その周囲を一度回らせた。人々は宿営に帰り、夜を宿営で過ごした。 | 6:11 So he caused the ark of Yahweh to go around the city, going about it once. Then they came into the camp, and lodged in the camp. | |
| 6:12翌朝ヨシュアは早く起き、祭司たちは主の箱をかき、 | 6:12 Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of Yahweh. | |
| 6:13七人の祭司たちは、雄羊の角のラッパ七本を携えて、主の箱に先立ち、絶えず、ラッパを吹き鳴らして進み、武装した者はこれに先立って行き、しんがりは主の箱に従った。ラッパは絶え間なく鳴り響いた。 | 6:13 The seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of Yahweh went on continually, and blew the trumpets: and the armed men went before them. The rear guard came after the ark of Yahweh. The trumpets sounded as they went. | |
| 6:14その次の日にも、町の周囲を一度巡って宿営に帰った。六日の間そのようにした。 | 6:14 The second day they marched around the city once, and returned into the camp. They did this six days. | |
| 6:15七日目には、夜明けに、早く起き、同じようにして、町を七度めぐった。町を七度めぐったのはこの日だけであった。 | 6:15 It happened on the seventh day, that they rose early at the dawning of the day, and marched around the city in the same way seven times. Only on this day they marched around the city seven times. | |
| 6:16七度目に、祭司たちがラッパを吹いた時、ヨシュアは民に言った、「呼ばわりなさい。主はこの町をあなたがたに賜わった。 | 6:16 It happened at the seventh time, when the priests blew the trumpets, Joshua said to the people, "Shout, for Yahweh has given you the city! | |
| 6:17この町と、その中のすべてのものは、主への奉納物として滅ぼされなければならない。ただし遊女ラハブと、その家に共におる者はみな生かしておかなければならない。われわれが送った使者たちをかくまったからである。 | 6:17 The city shall be devoted, even it and all that is in it, to Yahweh. Only Rahab the prostitute shall live, she and all who are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent. | |
| 6:18また、あなたがたは、奉納物に手を触れてはならない。奉納に当り、その奉納物をみずから取って、イスラエルの宿営を、滅ぼさるべきものとし、それを悩ますことのないためである。 | 6:18 But as for you, only keep yourselves from the devoted thing, lest when you have devoted it, you take of the devoted thing; so would you make the camp of Israel accursed, and trouble it. | |
| 6:19ただし、銀と金、青銅と鉄の器は、みな主に聖なる物であるから、主の倉に携え入れなければならない」。 | 6:19 But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, are holy to Yahweh. They shall come into Yahweh's treasury." | |
| 6:20そこで民は呼ばわり、祭司たちはラッパを吹き鳴らした。民はラッパの音を聞くと同時に、みな大声をあげて呼ばわったので、石がきはくずれ落ちた。そこで民はみな、すぐに上って町にはいり、町を攻め取った。 | 6:20 So the people shouted, and the priests blew the trumpets. It happened, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, that the people shouted with a great shout, and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city. | |
| 6:21そして町にあるものは、男も、女も、若い者も、老いた者も、また牛、羊、ろばをも、ことごとくつるぎにかけて滅ぼした。 | 6:21 They utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, both young and old, and ox, and sheep, and donkey, with the edge of the sword. | |
| 6:22その時ヨシュアは、この地を探ったふたりの人に言った、「あの遊女の家にはいって、その女と彼女に属するすべてのものを連れ出し、彼女に誓ったようにしなさい」。 | 6:22 Joshua said to the two men who had spied out the land, "Go into the prostitute's house, and bring out from there the woman and all that she has, as you swore to her." | |
| 6:23斥候となったその若い人たちははいって、ラハブとその父母、兄弟、そのほか彼女に属するすべてのものを連れ出し、その親族をみな連れ出して、イスラエルの宿営の外に置いた。 | 6:23 The young men who were spies went in, and brought out Rahab with her father, her mother, her brothers, and all that she had. They also brought out all her relatives, and they set them outside of the camp of Israel. | |
| 6:24そして火で町とその中のすべてのものを焼いた。ただ、銀と金、青銅と鉄の器は、主の家の倉に納めた。 | 6:24 They burnt the city with fire, and all that was in it. Only they put the silver, the gold, and the vessels of brass and of iron into the treasury of Yahweh's house. | |
| 6:25しかし、遊女ラハブとその父の家の一族と彼女に属するすべてのものとは、ヨシュアが生かしておいたので、ラハブは今日までイスラエルのうちに住んでいる。これはヨシュアがエリコを探らせるためにつかわした使者たちをかくまったためである。 | 6:25 But Rahab the prostitute, her father's household, and all that she had, Joshua saved alive. She lived in the midst of Israel to this day, because she hid the messengers, whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho. | |
| 6:26ヨシュアは、その時、人々に誓いを立てて言った、「おおよそ立って、このエリコの町を再建する人は、主の前にのろわれるであろう。その礎をすえる人は長子を失い、その門を建てる人は末の子を失うであろう」。 | 6:26 Joshua commanded them with an oath at that time, saying, "Cursed is the man before Yahweh, who rises up and builds this city Jericho. With the loss of his firstborn shall he lay its foundation, and with the loss of his youngest son shall he set up its gates." | |
| 6:27主はヨシュアと共におられ、ヨシュアの名声は、あまねくその地に広がった。 | 6:27 So Yahweh was with Joshua; and his fame was in all the land. | |
| 7:1しかし、イスラエルの人々は奉納物について罪を犯した。すなわちユダの部族のうちの、ゼラの子ザブデの子であるカルミの子アカンが奉納物を取ったのである。それで主はイスラエルの人々にむかって怒りを発せられた。 | 7:1 But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the devoted things; for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of the devoted things. Therefore Yahweh's anger burned against the children of Israel. | |
| 7:2ヨシュアはエリコから人々をつかわし、ベテルの東、ベテアベンの近くにあるアイに行かせようとして、その人々に言った、「上って行って、かの地を探ってきなさい」。人々は上って行って、アイを探ったが、 | 7:2 Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Beth Aven, on the east side of Bethel, and spoke to them, saying, "Go up and spy out the land." The men went up and spied out Ai. | |
| 7:3ヨシュアのもとに帰ってきて言った、「民をことごとく行かせるには及びません。ただ二、三千人を上らせて、アイを撃たせなさい。彼らは少ないのですから、民をことごとくあそこへやってほねおりをさせるには及びません」。 | 7:3 They returned to Joshua, and said to him, "Don't let all the people go up; but let about two or three thousand men go up and strike Ai. Don't make all the people to toil there, for there are only a few of them." | |
| 7:4そこで民のうち、おおよそ三千人がそこに上ったが、ついにアイの人々の前から逃げ出した。 | 7:4 So about three thousand men of the people went up there, and they fled before the men of Ai. | |
| 7:5アイの人々は彼らのうち、おおよそ三十六人を殺し、更に彼らを門の前からシバリムまで追って、下り坂で彼らを殺したので、民の心は消えて水のようになった。 | 7:5 The men of Ai struck about thirty-six men of them, and they chased them from before the gate even to Shebarim, and struck them at the descent. The hearts of the people melted, and became like water. | |
| 7:6そのためヨシュアは衣服を裂き、イスラエルの長老たちと共に、主の箱の前で、夕方まで地にひれ伏し、ちりをかぶった。 | 7:6 Joshua tore his clothes, and fell to the earth on his face before the ark of Yahweh until the evening, he and the elders of Israel; and they put dust on their heads. | |
| 7:7ヨシュアは言った、「ああ、主なる神よ、あなたはなにゆえ、この民にヨルダンを渡らせ、われわれをアモリびとの手に渡して滅ぼさせられるのですか。われわれはヨルダンの向こうに、安んじてとどまればよかったのです。 | 7:7 Joshua said, "Alas, Lord Yahweh, why have you brought this people over the Jordan at all, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to cause us to perish? I wish that we had been content and lived beyond the Jordan! | |
| 7:8ああ、主よ。イスラエルがすでに敵に背をむけた今となって、わたしはまた何を言い得ましょう。 | 7:8 Oh, Lord, what shall I say, after that Israel has turned their backs before their enemies! | |
| 7:9カナンびと、およびこの地に住むすべてのものは、これを聞いて、われわれを攻めかこみ、われわれの名を地から断ち去ってしまうでしょう。それであなたは、あなたの大いなる名のために、何をしようとされるのですか」。 | 7:9 For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of it, and will surround us, and cut off our name from the earth. What will you do for your great name?" | |
| 7:10主はヨシュアに言われた、「立ちなさい。あなたはどうして、そのようにひれ伏しているのか。 | 7:10 Yahweh said to Joshua, "Get up! Why are you fallen on your face like that? | |

Yes, they have even taken of the devoted things, and have also stolen, and also deceived. They have even put it among their own stuff. | |

They turn their backs before their enemies, because they have become devoted for destruction. I will not be with you any more, unless you destroy the devoted things from among you. | |

You cannot stand before your enemies until you take away the devoted thing from among you." | |
| 7:14それゆえ、あすの朝、あなたがたは部族ごとに進み出なければならない。そして主がくじを当てられる部族は、氏族ごとに進みいで、主がくじを当てられる氏族は、家族ごとに進みいで、主がくじを当てられる家族は、男ひとりびとり進み出なければならない。 | 7:14 "'In the morning therefore you shall be brought near by your tribes. It shall be that the tribe which Yahweh selects shall come near by families. The family which Yahweh selects shall come near by households. The household which Yahweh selects shall come near man by man. | |
| 7:15そしてその滅ぼされるべきものを持っていて、くじを当てられた者は、その持ち物全部と共に、火で焼かれなければならない。主の契約を破りイスラエルのうちに愚かなことを行ったからである』」。 | 7:15 It shall be, that he who is taken with the devoted thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he has, because he has transgressed the covenant of Yahweh, and because he has done a disgraceful thing in Israel.'" | |
| 7:16こうしてヨシュアは朝早く起き、イスラエルを部族ごとに進み出させたところ、ユダの部族がくじに当り、 | 7:16 So Joshua rose up early in the morning and brought Israel near by their tribes. The tribe of Judah was selected. | |
| 7:17ユダのもろもろの氏族を進み出させたところ、ゼラびとの氏族が、くじに当った。ゼラびとの氏族を家族ごとに進み出させたところ、ザブデの家族が、くじに当った。 | 7:17 He brought near the family of Judah; and he selected the family of the Zerahites. He brought near the family of the Zerahites man by man, and Zabdi was selected. | |
| 7:18ザブデの家族を男ひとりびとり進み出させたところ、アカンがくじに当った。アカンはユダの部族のうちの、ゼラの子、ザブデの子なるカルミの子である。 | 7:18 He brought near his household man by man, and Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was selected. | |
| 7:19その時ヨシュアはアカンに言った、「わが子よ、イスラエルの神、主に栄光を帰し、また主をさんびし、あなたのしたことを今わたしに告げなさい。わたしに隠してはならない」。 | 7:19 Joshua said to Achan, "My son, please give glory to Yahweh, the God of Israel, and make confession to him. Tell me now what you have done! Don't hide it from me!" | |
| 7:20アカンはヨシュアに答えた、「ほんとうにわたしはイスラエルの神、主に対して罪を犯しました。わたしがしたのはこうです。 | 7:20 Achan answered Joshua, and said, "I have truly sinned against Yahweh, the God of Israel, and this is what I have done. | |
